The Port Authority encourages all travelers to use mass transit (such as PATH rapid-transit; bus service from the Port Authority Bus Terminal or George Washington Bridge Bus Station; AirTrain JFK or AirTrain Newark when going to the airport; or other regional services) whenever possible, since it is the best way to save money, reduce congestion, and lessen the environmental impact of your trip. But if you have to drive, here are some tips on how to reduce your costs and help reduce carbon emissions, as well.

PORT AUTHORITY E-ZPass DISCOUNT PLANS
CARPOOLING IS BOTH ECO-CONSCIOUS AND THE MOST ECONOMICAL WAY TO TRAVEL
The Port Authority Carpool Plan provides the largest toll discount at the Port Authority bridges and tunnels. By carpooling, you save the most money, and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
- The toll for Port Authority Carpool customers is $2 at all hours.
- You must have an E-ZPass account and you must register for the Port Authority Carpool Discount Plan.
- To register for the Carpool Plan, call 1-800-333-8655 (New York Service Center) or 1-888-288-6865 (New Jersey Service Center). Be sure to have your account number or tag number and PIN for account access.
- Three or more people must be in a vehicle to be eligible for the Carpool toll rate (no commercial vehicles qualify).
- Customers must use a staffed "Cash-E-ZPass" toll lane and come to a complete stop so the toll collector can verify the number of occupants in the vehicle.

TRAVEL OFF-PEAK IN A LOW-EMISSION VEHICLE WITH THE NEW Green Pass AND SAVE
The Port Authority Green Pass Discount Plan rewards drivers using low-emissions vehicles with a substantial discount. Drivers with qualifying vehicles who register for the Port Authority Green Pass Discount Plan will receive a green E-ZPass tag and be charged a specially discounted toll during off-peak hours.
- Green Pass customers are charged a $4 toll during off-peak hours.
- There is no discount for driving during peak hours.
- To enroll in the Port Authority Green Pass Discount Plan, call 1-800-333-8655 (New York Service Center). Be sure to have your account number or tag number and PIN for account access.
- The Port Authority Green Pass discount only applies to Port Authority bridges and tunnels, though your Green Pass can be used at any crossing or road that accepts E-ZPass as a form of toll payment.
- To qualify for a Green Pass, you must have a vehicle that gets at least 45 mpg and meets the California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle standard. Currently eligible vehicles are: Honda Insight (2000 to 2004 models), Honda Civic (2003 to 2008 models), and the Toyota Prius (2001 to 2008 models).

THE STATEN ISLAND BRIDGES PLAN OFFERS E-ZPass SPECIAL SAVINGS FOR COMMUTERS
Regular users of the Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing can save by registering for the Port Authority Staten Island Bridges Plan.
- Staten Island Bridges Plan customers pay $80 for 20 trips in a 35-day period -- $4 per trip.

- All E-ZPass customers with non-commercial plates who enroll in the plan are eligible.

TRAVELING DURING OFF-PEAK HOURS WITH E-ZPass® WILL ALWAYS SAVE YOU MONEY
Using E-ZPass to travel during off-peak hours can save as much as 35 minutes on a trip from New Jersey to New York. With an E-ZPass account, you will receive discounts for driving during off-peak hours, while helping reduce congestion and emissions.
- The toll during off-peak hours is $6 -- a $2 discount off the peak-period and cash toll.
- There is no discount for driving during peak hours.
- Off-peak hours are all times EXCEPT Weekdays from 6-9 am and 4-7 pm, and Saturday & Sunday, 12 Noon - 8 pm.
- Enjoy off-peak discounts all day on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
