Usage Restrictions at Port Authority Crossings

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey regulates the transportation of hazardous materials, vehicle lengths, widths, heights, and weights. The Port Authority also has operating requirements that might be of concern to truckers using our tunnels and bridges.

 Usage Restrictions at the George Washington Bridge
ALL TRUCKS must use the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. Violators subject to summons and/or fine.

NJ: PERMANENT RESTRICTIONS:
• No trucks on Palisades Pkwy.

NY: PERMANENT RESTRICTIONS:
• Permit required in NYC for 102" trucks.
• No trucks on Henry Hudson Parkway.

LOWER LEVEL OF THE BRIDGE
• No Trucks
• Height restriction: 13' 6"

 Usage Restrictions at the Holland Tunnel
Commercial vehicles are prohibited from entering New York City via the Holland Tunnel. Commercial vehicles are encouraged to use the Lincoln Tunnel and George Washington Bridge as alternatives.
Commercial vehicles in classes 1, 2 and 3 (two and three-axle single-unit trucks) are permitted to travel in THE WESTBOUND DIRECTION (to New Jersey) at all times.
The ban on tractor-trailers and larger trucks in classes 4, 5 and 6 (four, five and six-axle trucks) remains in effect IN BOTH DIRECTIONS at all times. The ban on trailers and towed vehicles remains in effect IN BOTH DIRECTIONS at all times.
